Since classes resumed after spring break, visitors to London Middle School or Riley Elementary School may have noticed a new way to sign in at the front office.
Community Consolidated School District 21 has utilized the Raptor Visitor Management System since 2019 as a component of its district-wide three-point secure entry process. Traditionally, visitors seeking entry to any CCSD21 school present an ID to the school office staff, who either scan the ID or manually enter the visitor’s name and date of birth into the system.
Now, as part of a pilot program, this manual check-in process is being replaced with a self-service kiosk system.
“Our priority is always the safety and security of our students, staff, and visitors,” said Danny Malik, CCSD21’s director of safety and security. “Switching from a manual, in-person visitor management system to a kiosk model allows us to streamline the check-in process, strengthen security measures, and create a more consistent experience across all our buildings.”
The kiosk process remains similar to the in-person method: visitors present a valid state-issued ID at the kiosk, located at the school’s main entrance. The kiosk scans the ID and cross-checks the visitor’s name and date of birth against a national database of registered sex offenders.
Only the visitor’s name and date of birth are recorded—no other personal information is stored.
Once approved, visitors receive a badge displaying their name and the purpose of their visit, which must be worn while inside the school.
As part of the pilot, CCSD21 is testing two different systems: the Raptor Visitor Management Kiosk and CrisisGo’s GateKeeper.
According to Malik, piloting the kiosk model at London Middle School and Riley Elementary School will allow CCSD21 to evaluate both systems, gather feedback, and make an informed decision before considering a district-wide rollout.
