Free self-paced summer learning: myOn and Freckle

All PreK-8 students who were enrolled in CCSD21 schools in May have free access to myON and Freckle to continue their reading and math growth this summer. Both of these online platforms are self-paced and provide students with recommended activities based on their individual interests and learning levels.

Students can access both myOn and Freckle by clicking the Renaissance “R” symbol at the bottom of their Chromebook screen, or through this link. The User Name and Password to access these services are the same email address and password your student uses to sign in to their Chromebook every day.

Make plans to vaccinate yourself and children age 12+ against COVID-19

Both the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics have strongly expressed their support and recommend COVID-19 vaccines in adolescents. The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine currently has Emergency Use Authorization for individuals age 12 and older.

recent CDC study reported that hospitalization rates for COVID-19 among adolescents increased during March and April after initially decreasing in early 2021. This report comes as data show that the newest delta variant of COVID-19 is highly transmissible, especially among 12-20 year olds.

Receiving a vaccine is safe and free, and protects against severe illness. Make your appointment today! If you or someone you know needs assistance scheduling a vaccine appointment, call the toll-free Illinois Department of Public Health hotline at 833-621-1284.

Virtual town hall: Tips and resources to help prevent teen alcohol and substance use

From our partners at the Link Together Coalition:

Summer is here and with it comes sunshine, heat, pool days and fun! Research shows that summertime is also the most common time for teens to try alcohol and other drugs. Link Together, along with partner prevention groups throughout the suburban Chicago area, will provide parents with tips and resources to help prevent teen alcohol and substance use during summer and all year long in an upcoming virtual town hall.

Substance use is significantly lower among teens who believe their parents strongly disapprove of substance use. One of the best ways to prevent substance use among your kids is to educate yourself and then pass that education on to your children. Register here.

This event is co-sponsored by DuPage County Prevention Leadership Team, Coalition for a Safe and Healthy Elgin, Community Alliance for Prevention, Community: The Anti-Drug, LEAD, Link Together Coalition, Stand Strong Coalition, Will County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, and the Wilmington Coalition for a Healthy Community.
