Weather Announcement

August 24, 2018

Topic: Updates

Good afternoon Riley Parents,

With school in session and the upcoming weather forecast, I would like to remind you of our warm weather plans.

Students are encouraged to keep a water bottle at their desk and drink water throughout the day on warm weather days. The classes that meet on our second floor rotate to “cooling centers” several times during the course of the day.  Our students will be spending time in air-conditioned areas such as the library, the computer lab, the teachers’ lounge, and the foyer. Additionally, we utilize classrooms on the first floor whenever possible. We continually monitor our students with regard to hydration and their comfort level, and we will make accommodations wherever needed.

When weather allows, the windows upstairs will remain open and classroom vents will remain on overnight. If temperatures drop overnight, the cooler air will be able to circulate throughout the building. Doors to rooms on the first floor will also be left open to increase circulation.

Our staff is making every effort to maintain a learning environment that is as comfortable as possible for our students. We are fortunate to have such a committed group of educators working with our students.

Please know the final decision for students attending school on warm days is yours. If a parent chooses to keep a student home due to the weather, please let us know and it will be counted as an excused absence.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. We appreciate your support!

Sincerely,

Kevin Olsen

Principal – Riley School
